How to Draw a Sea

It takes a skilled artist to draw a sea and give it color. An artist often uses the color aquamarine to paint the marine, another name for sea. Learning about the different types of sea and its different states can be a life-long process. We can use gouache or watercolor, and even better oil paints in order to accurately convey the multitude of colors and depth of the sea. The color scheme of the sea is particularly vibrant at sunset. It is not easy to draw a sea, especially with a pencil. The most important thing is to draw ocean waves. But let's start with a simple, step-by-step sea landscape drawn in # 2 pencil.

Step 1

To begin, draw a line of for the beach and another one for the sea horizon. First, draw a basic outline of the sea landscape. This initial outline will include rocks and stones on the seashore. You can add small waves around the stones near the water. Draw a separate line for the horizon and add setting sun.

Step 2

Waves of the sea. Draw the contoured lines of waves all over the sea. Make the strokes thinner. Do not press on the pencil too much.

Step 3

At this stage, we paint strokes to outline waves around the stones. You can stamp them with your finger or the eraser. Begin adding strokes to the part of the sea that is located near the horizon. The horizon line is also blurry, so you can use the same technique. Add color throughout the rest of the perimeter of the sea.

Step 4

The sand on the seashore. Now we will work on the sand. Draw the Sea coastline from sand and add touches of tonality in pencil. Next we remove any black pigment from the sea by gently whitening darker sections with the eraser. Paint the stones and draw small clouds above the sea.

Step 5

Painting clouds over the sea. At this point, we add more strokes in the upper part of this image of the sea. Then darken the top part of the sky. Make the water glisten in some areas of the sea. Add a few small clouds using weak strokes to depict wind. Now you know how to draw a sea in pencil and you can draw a fishing Boat or little sailboat out at sea, etc.

Step 6

After a couple of times of practice, you can color it with paint. I painted the sea using a Wacom Tablet.
